One of the biggest talking points at this year’s International Security Expo next month will undoubtedly be BBX, predicts Stewart Liberatore, Projects Director at RWS, the blast and ballistic protection experts.
The materials and methods used to protect against bullets, shells and explosions have not changed dramatically over the last three decades.

The industry has made use of multiple materials – typically steel plates and reinforced concrete – as the only solution to this dual need for protection.
But as security budgets are stretched across the sector, the need for more cost-effective options, that don’t compromise on safety, has never been more essential.
“In addition to this, the sector is crying out for materials that have wider scope in terms of design and can work in more complex scenarios,” explained Stewart. “Materials that have limited performance and yet are still so labour intensive to build are no longer the solution.”
Facing this problem head on, RWS has partnered with Tarmac to produce a new product which has been put through a rigorous round of trials before coming to market. Tried and tested to BR7 Ballistic Protection Category and Blast C15 Blast Protection Category, the BBX product will be centre stage on the companies’ joint stand at ISE next month.
“Interest levels around the product are building as people start to realise the value to their organisation of one single material that has the ability to protect against both blast and ballistic attack,” added Stewart. “Based upon the blend of materials in this new BBX product, the scope for its uses are endless and that’s what makes this such an exciting new addition for the security industry.”
The BBX product will be on the stand at ISE to touch and feel for yourself. Film will also be rolling to evidence results of the testing in both a blast and ballistic trial.

The RWS and Tarmac stand is B61 at ISE. For anyone wanting more information in advance of the exhibition, or anyone wanting to book an appointment for either December 3rd or 4th, contact: Franb@rwsltd.co.uk or tel: 01733 351136.
